re-edit

Re-edited

Much simpler much better

Yep another =]

I shot this one with natural night as it was a steath mission because we got kicked out by security the day before.

HDR - BLW - Blair Wilson

I like the height of the drop and being able to see the tensed muscles as it shows how much strength it takes to do this. This is hanging by his fingertips about to drop down.

Even More Parkour

yep some more for u guys, also a shot of Tristan Richards doing some.

These are all unedited, not sure if i will use any for my folio.

more parkour

this shot may be edited to see the focus on his face more as that is the main reason why is shot this image.

This jump blair did was abosltly crazy, i stood up there and got death woobles and had to come down.

the starting point was only a brick wide with a huge drop on both sides
the jump was huge and barely possible from a standing jump
the landing on the far side had a drop on both sides, satis on one side and a rock face on the other.
luckily there was a practise side on the left without the drop to get warmed up on.

Another Change in my Doco Series

Yep another change to my Documentary series that keeps falling apart.

So now my series has now turned into A series on Freestyle Unicyclist Luke Leckerby.

I have organised a shoot with him tomorrow, which is futher already that my other two guys from sydney and brisbane.

The Change is for the best because

- He lives in Canberra =]=]=]
- which saves me alot of money
- He is amazing at unicycling
- He is a bit of a show Ponny - GREAT for photos
- He is autistic and very interesting
- His personality is very unquie

these are just a few reasons for the change

When shooting with these altheles you must shoot trick/action shots with them even if your not looking for these shots. these people dont care about portrait shots or lifestyle shots all they want to see are their actions shots. So for tomorrow i will shoot lots of different location action shots but try to only shoot a few with flash, this will give me the ability to be constantly shooting luke when he is unaware. This is more the photographs i am looking for within this series. I will add in a 1 maybe 2 of the trick shots but mostly looking for expressions and caputring things most people dont get to see.

I am also goging to try get him into the studio for a quick 30 minute portrait shoot, i will use this for one of my studio portrait shots in that series.

I am setting myself a huge challenge here by trying to get 7 shoots in one day.

the 6 series documentary and also a studio portrait all before 4pm when i have a meeting with siliva. If i cannot get this done i am not ready for the industry in extreme sports because most clients will not pay more than a few hours work for this sort of job. I know i can do this even thou it is a challenge but i am going to set myself to achieve quality over qantity so i will not push myslef to much to get it done tomorrow as i do have more time but it would be gresat to have to done tomorrow at a high quality.

ill just have to see what happens tomorrow.

My ideas -

out shooting by 10am
- start of with one warm up shot
- one rail grind shot
- one shot in the middle of the city at lunch time with lots of people watching - capturing all the expressions of other people - maybe garema place.
- over to CIT studio shot
- maybe get an action shot in the studio shot aswell
- rail roll over a bridge somewhere
- lifestyle shot check ing out spots somewhere in this crazy day =]
- be at cit at 4pm to meet silvia

Some ideas but you never know how the day will turn out but you must always have a plan!

Parkour Action shot

This shoot was pretty fun, We went to tuggeranong shopping centre and tried to find something good to get blair to hang off. we found this two story drop and i found it really hard to light as it was a huge drop. I eventually ended up using two flashes one to light the wall and the ground which i have left in the photo and one lighting through the rail to give the light over his eyes and on the rail.

I really wanted to get the shot with him hanging from his fingertips the most but the lighting on the one hanging from the top rail is prefect. I will end up using that one in my folio. We also got booted by security for taking photos (NOT for hanging of the side of buildings). Blair acually was dropping off this two story drop but it was quite hard to captured that shot in a good way. I also tried to captured the security guards a bit better bit he wasn't very happy about us taking photos of him.

Parkour Portrait

Parkour/free running
Studio Portrait

I wanted the straight on angle, shot on black then added textured to match my previous shot of Luke waiman.
I am also going to shoot my next one in the same style so i have a bit of a series happening with my portraits.

I wanted to show he upper strength as free running is alot about fitness and strength. I also wanted to show the expression as quite dark and focused. most free-runners train by running from security and they remain in the darkness.

I am still unsure about the bricks in the background (my shot not stock) maybe i will just darken them more.
I am still searching for new textures, i have now decided to not use any stock photos as i want my images to remain purely all my own work. I will not change previous photos but from now on no more stock images.

UN Comp

Theme - Problems and solutions

This shot i want portray a new world of broken forests, i wanted a bit more of a star trail but the longer exposures started to fog up due to shooting in winter. I ran around and light painted this giant firewood pile to make a very unearthly feel to the image. This portrays that way we are heading with deforestation and soon how the forests will look of this keeps happening.

Mat Higgins

This is was a complete setup, i knew exactly what i wanted how i was going to light it what he was going to wear and the pose he was going to do. This made this shot a very quick shoot which was about a 5 minute shoot. The only problem is that it was raining while we were shooting.

I wanted to portray the training side of rollerblading, every rollerblader has a p rail (practice rail) where they have spent their childhood learning all their new tricks. The rain does work but it is not very noticeable in the image but u can tell by the clothes and the little specs in the background.

I used two flashes for this i wanted to only use one and make it look like a natural diffused light but because of the back hoodie i needed to separate him from the background which meant i used nearly the same lighting as i usually do. I really wanted to get out the fashion of back lighting everything but when i see all extreme sports images it seems that all the best photographers always backlight their images. I am very undecided which direction i will take with this, to follow the others or to keep trying to create a new style?

RHINO

This shoot was with my mates Jacob Taylor, it was just a test shoot with my new gels to see if i could get a really blue background because i want to try do a dan vojtech style flatland shoot it didnt work as well as i would have hoped as it was in direct sunlight and it was quite hard to through enough oragne light onto him.

I really like the portrait of him without the camera in it, his expression really suits the image. I did want to portray that he is a photographer/videographer for riding but it was quite hard to make it look natural.

Be-Mag

http://www.be-mag.com/picture/4612-Stephen-Walker-Fakie-360-to-bank-180-out

About 2 weeks ago i figured i would start sending some shots into magazines, I started with be-mag which is one of the biggest rollerblading mags in the world and then i would move onto other mags. I sent two photos through to see what they said, i sent the sequence shot of stephen and the vert wall shot of tristan.

Stephens sequence got pic of the week on the be-mag site - See link

I also got a job shooting a feature profile on CJ Wellsmore!!!!!!!!!!!!
If i get good shots it will probably include a COVER shot!!!!!!
it is going to be a 6 page spread with all my shots!!!!!

I am also doing a feature for the site on the box we made for the time lapse. They are doing a Build it blade it feature on this. This is more a videography project than a photography project but still a great way to get into the industry.

not bad for the first time sending in photos to a magazine.

I am traveling to sydney in the next few weeks staying for about a week with CJ and shooting the profile hopefully getting all the shots i need for a cover, DPS and feature shots.

This profile on Cj is replacing my documentary series on Gerad Aherns for my folio. I will still be doing this series on Gerad but not for this semesters folio. I am going to try get a paid job with be-mag for the profile on Gerad.
