Paulie Hack

just another shot that i may use for my folio

Paulie Hack - Sydney - Havok Clothing
Shifty up the rail to 180 mute grab out

This panorama was really hard to stick as i shot it with a fisheye (bad Idea). After alot of warping i finally got it to line up and i am pretty happy with the result. This lighting is fairly good for the length of the rail because it was really hard to get enough light on the whole rail.

Sequence Shot

Over the last 2 weeks i have been struggling to get a good sequence shot mostly because of location. Over the weekend of the Australian Rolling Open alot of people from all around australia were in canberra and we all went for a street roll. This is where i got this shot, we went to this very ghetto flats in the city across from the skatepark. Stephen Walker from Tazmania tried to gap into this bank of the roof a few time and not being able to stick it. While tring to land it this guy came up to us with his dogg and started yelling about stunt rollerblading (he was very drunk). I shot a few photos of him on the stairs and then right after Steve Landed a fakie 360 into the bank 180 out. In post Production i stitched the drunk guy on the stairs with steves sequence. I am really happy with the result of this shot.

Tristan Richards Portrait

This is another shot for the Querky Studio Series

This shot is of Tristan Richards, I have done a bit of a composite with this using the 3 shots below and then just blended together in photoshop. I used just a gradient with a few cloud brushes. I also used a technique for making fog to make the ray coming out of the hand. I was pretty much only using the solid colour with different masks.

Basically the shot is portraying Tristan's amazing skating skills in deifying gravity and doing some amazing tricks. It says that he is playing with god with his skates, god is then trying to take his skates off him to stop him breaking the laws of gravity.

Gear

Just a iphone shot of all my gear to this date

I also have some slave triggers and 2x gels kits coming in the mail

Time Lapse Day 1

I am using this as one of my Lifestyle photos

The Box is being made for the Australian rolling open at woden skatepark in about 2 weeks

This is just a start of the time lapse

I am going to do a time lapse for the next day and hopefully finish it on that day.
I am then going to do a nice photo using flash and have a bit of a portrait of us celebrating that we finished it.

I am then going to do a time lapse of use loading it onto and off the car at the comp and do a few sequences of people skating it.

Song is by my mate tristan so all copyright is ok.

Mat Higgins & Jorden Collins

This was a shoot from yesterday with mat higgins and jorden Collins. We went out particually to get some sequence shots. I choose this spot because of the length of the rail and the ability to spin of the end of it.

The spot itself wasn't very good for exposure because it is very covered by trees and buildings and was really dark with really bright highlights coming through the trees. It also didn't heap that they both were wearing black. I think Jordan's works better because he is wearing a white helmet separating him from the background. I also like the transparent version of the sequence. I also desaturated the background only to make the skater stand out more using selective colouring.

We then went to this rail, the photos came out of but i wont use them only because of the reflection in the glass that was almost unavoidable and i didn't have much time to set up because there were people inside the bar and we didn't have long before we got kicked out.

Aiden Chard

This was another random person at the skate park, he was doing these huge turndowns really tweaked. Again i went up to him and asked if he could do it again and i shot it a few times before we got it right.

I have shopped some things out of the background to give it a really plain mood and keep the photo focused on the trick because it truly is an amazing trick being so tweaked.

It was a really hard shot to get right as he was airing so high my tripod wasn't able to go high enough, I may invest in getting a boom juts for these sort of shots. It is always better to light your subject from above and with this it was near impossible with the height he was getting.

I will probably use the bottom shot as you can see his face and i like the texture of the copping.

Brock Dunn

I have now been shooting random people at the skatepark to get a range of different sports.

I think it helps alot been a skater myself and be able to relate to these people and get shots comfortably.

I did not know this skater till about a minute before the shoot, i sam that he was fairly good and saw we was doing this grind around the corner. I asked my if he could do it again and i would take the shot. He was really happy to do it as many times untill we got the shot.

I shot this with two speedlites, one backlighting and one on the side. I really like the contrasty lighting in skating shots especially backlit. Also using my new 8mm fisheye, i was playing with closeup work on the ramps to get the leading lines in the composition and also be able to see the texture of the ramp.

Damiano Luzzi

I did this shot with one of your groms yesterday Testing out my new fisheye lens (8mm). I probably wont use any of these for my folio (maybe).

It was really really hard to get enough light out of my speedlites i used to together to get enough power to balance the natural light.

I am now starting to build up my action sports kit with speedlites. I have just ordered 2 sets of speedlites attachments such as snoots and honeycombs.

the 8mm fisheye is definatly a must for this type of work and is one of the best lenses i have bought so far.

Re-edit

I have just re-edited the shot i did of sam and put more ground in the bottom. I used another shot and composited it together. I believe the composition is much better but im am still unsure whether i will use this as a folio shot or not.
